One way to promote articles published on your own blog is to share it on Facebook status updates. You can link to interesting articles and gain traffic to your site.
When I paste a link into the Facebook update, Facebook automatically get the article’s title and description as well as the thumbnail of the image.
Here’s the question now, do you just hit post and let Facebook decides to show the article’s title and description? If yes, there is a way to edit the title and description, I will show the steps. If no, I supposed you somehow know the process how to edit the title and description of an article you link to.
Now, here’s the quick guide how to edit the title and description of an article you are going to link to:
1. Write few words or “teaser” that best describes your article. In this point you want to give a hint on what are you going to share. Paste in the full URL (including the http://) from the article page.
2. Before hitting the post button, edit the title (see the boldface area), clicking it once. A text box will appear with the original title inside. Type your desired title inside the field.
3. Repeat the process for the description.
4. If you are all set with the new title and description, simply click post.
Note: If you are using various posting scheduler like Hootsuite, Buffer or any other applications, commands might be slightly different but the editing is just the same.
The reason you are editing the title and description text is to optimize it for your ideal Facebook audience. This will increase the possibility for your article to get like, share and read eventually.
